The Salty Lab x Vermilion Sea Institute Partnership Announcement
We’re excited to officially announce a new partnership between The Salty Lab and the Vermilion Sea Institute (VSI), a Baja California-based nonprofit organization focused on conservation, environmental education, community science, and strengthening connections between people and marine ecosystems.
Located in Bahía de los Ángeles, Mexico, VSI operates long-term whale shark monitoring and community science initiatives while also creating immersive educational experiences that connect participants directly to conservation work in the field.
One of the things that immediately stood out to us about VSI is their commitment to making marine conservation feel accessible, participatory, and deeply rooted in both community and environment. Through programs like Stars to Sea and Baja Experience, participants are introduced to real-world community science, whale shark monitoring, field station life, and conservation storytelling in ways that foster meaningful connection to both the ocean and the people working to protect it.
Through this collaboration, The Salty Lab and VSI will be exploring opportunities surrounding:
conservation storytelling
community science education
co-branded educational resources
whale shark monitoring communication
educational media and field storytelling
future conservation-focused product collaborations
As part of this partnership, The Salty Lab will also begin introducing our audience to conservation-focused educational experiences and programs offered through VSI, including the Stars to Sea community science expedition and the Baja Experience liveaboard.
We’re especially excited about the potential to collaboratively build educational resources and storytelling that help bridge the gap between field research, conservation, public engagement, and accessible pathways into marine science.
This partnership represents a shared belief that conservation becomes stronger when people feel personally connected to the ecosystems and research efforts surrounding them.
We’re incredibly excited about what’s ahead and look forward to continuing to grow this collaboration together.
