About the Founder
Our Founder is a marine biologist and science communicator.
Her work began in the field, conducting shark research, studying coastal ecosystems, and collecting data to better understand the health of marine environments. Through this experience, she recognized a consistent gap, not just between science and the public, but between research and the policy decisions needed to protect these systems.
That insight led to the creation of The Salty Lab.
What started as a research-driven initiative has grown into a platform that connects research, education, and policy. Shivani’s work focuses on ensuring that scientific data does not stop at publication, but instead informs conservation strategies, supports decision-making, and reaches the communities it impacts.
In parallel, she develops educational materials built directly from ongoing research, including K–12 lesson plans and outreach programming designed for different age groups and learning levels. Through these efforts, she works to make marine science accessible, relevant, and actionable.
Through The Salty Lab and its growing global community, she is building a model where science is not only conducted, but shared, understood, and used to drive meaningful change.
