At The Salty Lab, collaboration is the current that keeps conservation moving forward.

We’re proud to work with like-minded organizations, schools, research teams, and brands that share our commitment to protecting the ocean.

Join Us

Conservation is most effective when it is built through collaboration.

The Salty Lab partners with individuals and organizations who are committed to advancing research, education, and policy for ocean conservation. As part of The Research Fleet, you join a growing network working to translate science into real-world impact.

Whether your work is in scientific research, education, policy, sustainability, product development, or community outreach, there is a place for you in this mission. Our partnerships are designed to be active and outcome-driven, contributing to projects that generate data, expand access to education, and support informed decision-making.

Partnership Approach:

We seek partners who value scientific integrity, transparency, and meaningful impact. Successful collaborations are rooted in shared goals, open communication, and a commitment to advancing work that extends beyond awareness into measurable outcomes.

Partnership opportunities may include collaboration on research initiatives, development of education materials, policy-focused projects, or public engagement efforts. Full details can be explored through our partner interest form.

Vermilion Sea Institute (VSI)

The Vermilion Sea Institute (VSI) is a nonprofit conservation organization based in Bahía de los Ángeles, Baja California, Mexico. VSI focuses on marine conservation, environmental education, community science, and fostering meaningful connections between people and the ecosystems surrounding the Gulf of California.

Since 2010, VSI has conducted long-term whale shark monitoring in Bahía de los Ángeles using non-invasive photo-identification methods to better understand regional whale shark populations and support ongoing conservation efforts. In addition to its research initiatives, VSI operates immersive educational and conservation programs including Stars to Sea and Baja Experience, which provide participants with opportunities to engage directly in community science, field-based learning, and conservation-focused exploration.

VSI also leads the Aventureros program, a year-round youth initiative designed to increase accessibility to marine science and environmental education for local students through field activities, mentorship, and ocean-based learning experiences.

Through our partnership, The Salty Lab and VSI collaborate on conservation storytelling, educational resources, community science communication, and expanding access to immersive marine conservation experiences. Together, we aim to help bridge the gap between field research, public engagement, and ocean conservation through co-branded educational initiatives and field-to-digital storytelling.
