The Salty Lab Academy
Inspiring the next generation of ocean guardians.
From Coast to Classroom
At The Salty Lab, we believe ocean science should be more than facts in a textbook β it should be an adventure you can see, feel, and explore. Imagine standing at the edge of the sea and discovering a tidepool: vibrant, alive, and full of hidden stories waiting to be uncovered.
That same sense of discovery is what weβre bringing into classrooms, homeschool spaces, aquariums, and libraries. Our upcoming lesson kits, homeschool explorer boxes, and live school programs transform real marine biology research into hands-on learning experiences. Students wonβt just learn about sharks, seagrass, and sea turtles β theyβll connect with them through activities designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and inspire a lifelong love for the ocean.
Every resource is rooted in authentic field science β from shark tagging and seagrass surveys to sea turtle rehabilitation β making sure that what kids learn is both exciting and true to the ocean.
All programs are in development and launching soon. Be the first to explore with us and help shape the future of ocean education.
Homeschool Explorer Boxes (Quarterly Subscription β Coming 2026)
Our Homeschool Explorer Boxes transform your living room into a mini marine science lab. Every quarter, families will receive a themed box filled with activities and experiments designed to make learning about the ocean exciting, approachable, and fun.
Each box will include:
π Hands-on experiments & crafts inspired by real marine biology fieldwork
π Illustrated activity booklets packed with ocean facts, shark spotlights, and puzzles
π Collectible marine creature cards to build knowledge (and a little friendly trivia competition!)
π» Bonus digital resources & live Q&A opportunities with The Salty Lab team
Why it matters: Homeschool families often struggle to find science resources that are engaging, standards-informed, and rooted in real research. Explorer Boxes solve that problem β delivering marine science right to your doorstep, blending education and wonder in a way kids will remember long after the last activity is finished.
Lesson Kits (Coming 2026)
Our NGSS + Florida Standards-aligned lesson kits donβt just teach marine biology β they immerse students in it. Designed for classrooms and after-school programs, each kit is built to spark curiosity and turn big ocean concepts into hands-on learning adventures.
Every kit will feature:
π§ͺ Hands-on experiments & activities that bring marine science to life
π₯ Multimedia resources like videos and digital field notes straight from our research trips
π Teacher guides with discussion prompts, background context, and easy-to-use answer keys
βοΈ Student worksheets, vocab cards, and extension activities to reinforce learning across grade levels
Why it matters: Most kids will never swim with sharks or snorkel through a seagrass meadow β but with our lesson kits, theyβll experience those worlds in their own classroom. Rooted in real field science, these kits make marine biology both accessible for educators and unforgettable for students, building a stronger connection between science, conservation, and everyday learning.
School Programs & Teacher Training (Coming 2026)
Not every classroom can make it to the coast β so weβre bringing the coast to the classroom. Our school programs and professional development workshops connect students and educators directly to practicing marine biologists.
Programs will feature:
π€ Interactive assemblies with real research footage and ocean storytelling
π§βπ« Teacher professional development workshops with practical classroom applications
π Virtual or in-person Q&A sessions with The Salty Lab team
π¦ Customizable themes like sharks, seagrass, sea turtles, or ocean conservation tailored to grade levels
Why it matters: These programs donβt just teach facts β they create connections. Students meet real scientists, see real data, and get a chance to ask big questions. Teachers gain tools and confidence to integrate marine science into their curriculum. The result? Science that feels alive, relevant, and empowering.
Now accepting interest from schools to partner as early pilot sites in 2026.
